There’s no set distance or time interval when you should replace your tyres. The best way to tell if your tyres need replacing is to take a look at the tread. If the tyre isn’t in good shape (e.g. cracked rubber or it’s starting to bulge) or the tread is getting close to the wear indicators (the wear indicators are small sticks of rubber situated in grooves between the tread), then it’s time to replace your tyres.
Once the tread gets down to the wear indicators, your tyres performance will begin to degrade, becoming more and more dangerous. In Australia, the required minimum tread depth is 1.5mm. Once your tyres have worn down past this point they become illegal.
